Thanks to all who attended our TIMEOC meeting.
IntroTIMEOC got us off to a great start as we all go to know each other better and what we want from the group.
TalkTIMEOC began with talk about foursquare, a social media site that lets you “check in” with your mobile phone to let your friends know where you are and get special offers from the stores you go anyway. It’s fun and free! Check them out.
Then the topic went on to application platforms/content managements systems (CMS), namely Microsoft Sharepoint, Alfresco, Drupal and DotNetNuke. All have their benefits and weaknesses and should be reviewed before choosing. Sharepoint specializes in intranets, while the other three are more classic CMSs (Content Management Systems).
We then discussed how sometimes a good strategy for startup companies is to sell consulting first. We also talked about Saas (Software-as-a-Service).
We also discussed hosting options like WordPress, HostMonster, HostGator, BlueHost, GoDaddy, MaximumASP, and RackSpace.
Lastly, we talked about Content Distribution Networks (CDNs) like Limelight, Akamai, Level 3, Highwinds, and Amazon.
We wrapped it up with IdeaTIMEOC and more ideas and brainstorming.
Thanks again to everyone that attended and be sure to invite your friends and RSVP to the next meeting!
